GLP and GMP are at times confused as the same as it pertains to Laboratory testing. It is understandable that both cover Lab Testing still are different. Knowing the difference becomes very important here.
GLPs are mostly focused on preclinical development. GLPs only apply to studies that are conducted in test systems like live organisms, plants, or microorganisms—not chemistry-based or microbiological quality testing. The GLPs are designed in such a way as to protect scientific data integrity, and to provide the EPA or FDA with a clear and auditable record of open-ended research studies.
Whereas on the other hand GMP is testing of regulated products that are manufacture like the finished pharmaceuticals, this should be done under GMP. It is concerned with the Process. This denotes whether or not products are manufactured as per pre-defined criteria
